The "Honor My Hero" Project was founded to honor and support our Heroes.
We seek to pay tribute to the countless unsung Heroes among us. Few of these will receive medals. Most will not have monuments or public projects dedicated in their name. Yet all are Heroes in the truest sense, and we know them well.
They are our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen and Marines deployed the world over to protect our freedom. They are our Veterans who answered their country’s call in times past. They are our police officers and troopers, our firefighters and paramedics who guard our communities and keep us safe. They are our doctors, nurses and health care workers who mend us and keep us well. They are our teachers who shape each generation, forming us into persons we are today. They are our Astronauts, engineers and scientist who take us back to our origins, probe deep into our basic elements and lead us forward to the stars, to our future and to a better world. They are those who prevail over great adversity by somehow finding the courage and will to overcome.
Perhaps more importantly they are our spouses, our sons and daughters, our Dads and Moms, our friends, our family members, our neighbors. They may also just be strangers who happen to be present when need called and who answered selflessly.
All of them give deeply of themselves – some to the point of the ultimate sacrifice -- some in answering dramatic calls to duty -- some in performing a million small acts of selfless giving. Some are here with us still. Some have passed on but not before leaving their mark on those they loved. All of them show what is best in humanity: courage, dedication, duty, perseverance, selflessness, sacrifice, and love.
They deserve to be put on a pedestal for all to see, to admire, to study and to imitate.....and most especially to our young, they send an important message:
Heroism is not illusive. |
It is not the rare trait of a few. |
It is instead, near at hand. |
Perhaps as close as a person nearby, |
Perhaps, as close as YOU. |
Read the stories here of our Heroes. Then, please take a moment to tell us all about your Hero. Let us fill this space with tributes to our Heroes and, in so doing, honor them all. |
